For additional information, please contact Arve Myklebust at +47 67579900, or send an email to arve.myklebust@dnv.com New Rules for double-hull tanker scantlings available by June The drive to develop common Rules for scantlings for double-hull tankers over 150m in length is nearing completion following the result of a joint effort between the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Lloyd's Register and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) New IMO Requirements The 9th edition of DNV's Information Note No.9 New IMO Requirements - Present and Future Amendments is now available. The Information Note will be distributed to shipowners and yards via the local DNV stations. It can also be downloaded on web. Condition Assessment Survey As a consequence of the Erika disaster the phase out dates for single hull tankers were enforced in an amendmend Regulation 13G of Marpol Annex I. We have provided an Information Paper about the CAS survey requirements. This paper is updated on the decisions taken at IMO MEPC 50 in December 2003. New Convention on Ballast Water Management adopted by IMO From the 9th to the 13th February IMO held an “International Conference on Ballast Water Management” for ships. At the conference the new International Convention for the Control and Management of Ship’s Ballast Water and Sediments was adopted. Report from the IMO 50th session of the Marine Environmental Protection Committee On 5 December 2003 the MEPC 50 adopted an amended Regulation 13G of MARPOL 73/78 Annex I on phase out of single hull tankers and a new regulation 13H on carriage of heavy grade oil. They will enter into force on 5 April 2005. The Condition Assessment Scheme was also amended. We have provided an information letter to Oil Tanker Owners. IACS actions to improve safety on existing bulk carriers On 15 March 2002 the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) announced 8 proposed measures to enhance the safety of bulk carriers. They are directed primarily at existing bulk carriers. We have provided an Information Paper about the current status. New hull survey requirements for general dry cargo ships A major initiative to reduce general cargo ships casualties has been taken by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). We have provided an Information Paper new hull survey requirements for certain general dry cargo ships. NOx certification of diesel engines. DNV provides NOx certification of diesel engines according MARPOL 73/78 ANNEX VI, Reg. 13, as adopted by IMO.
