The Certification of Personnel Lifts (elevators) will generally be based upon DNV's rules: "Certification of Lifts in Ships, Mobile Offshore Units and Offshore Installations", 1987.
The certification is optional, but some flag administrations prefer certification by the class.

Note: DNV also offers the inclusion og other standards, such as the new EN-81, in the certification.
