Dangerous Goods
Dangerous goods is an important issue in today’s shipping and offshore market. Every day, several ships enter ports world-wide carrying dangerous goods, either as bulk or as packaged goods. While the vast majority of these shipments are made without incident, there have been a number of serious casualties which resulted, not only in the loss of ship, but also in the loss of life.

Cargo Securing Manual (CSM)
SOLAS Chapter VI and VII requires a Cargo Securing Manual (CSM) for all types of ships engaged in the carriage of cargoes other than solid and liquid bulk cargoes. The CSM shall be drawn up to a standard at least equivalent to relevant guidelines developed by the Organization, ref. IMO MSC/Circ. 745 - 13 June 1996. The requirements were implemented 1 January 1998. Having an approved Cargo Securing Manual is a statutory requirement, which DNV as a class society can approve on behalf of the flag authorities, provided DNV is authorised by the flag authority in question.

Common Structural Rules
The Common Structural Rules (CSR) was formally adopted by IACS council on 14th of December 2005. The new standard applies to all tanker above 150 meters in length and all bulk carriers, single or double hull, above 90 meters in length. The Rules enters in to force 1st of April 2006, and will apply to all such vessels signed for construction on or after this date. The new Common Structural Rules will be uniformly implemented by each of the IACS members.
