DNV has the most comprehensive approach toward safe naval
vessels, including rules for Naval Surface Crafts, supported by the
worlds major navies and naval shipbuilding yards.
Classification of Naval Surface Crafts,
including structured verification through design, construction and
operation of naval vessels, brings in different challenges. In
particular due to the absence of some pure commercial and flag
authority processes, requirements and interests.
To ensure safe naval
vessels fit for purpose to accommodate the need of the
navies, DNV has, through development and experience with the navies
and yards, blended traditional naval standards and commercial
practise. Available class notations ensure safety, equivalent to
IMO regulations, accommodating naval operational requirements for
nearly any combatant or non-combatant vessel, and of any
construction and design.
DNV is involved in several naval ship activities world wide,
including UK, Norway, Australia, Denmark, Portugal and
US.
